“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).
IDEA: In crisis moments the big question, “Will I follow God?” sometimes is answered by other questions.
PURPOSE: To help listeners really think through what it means to make decisions in faith.
When you sign a contract, what do you do first?
Would you sign a contract in which someone says, “Just sign your name and I’ll fill it in”?
I. Does God’s call to Abraham and to us resemble a contract that is a blank page not filled in?
When God called Abraham, He basically told Abraham to sign the bottom line and trust Him to fill in the details.
When God calls us to give our lives to Him, He seldom fills in the contract up front. Part of faith is to sign on the bottom line and trust God to do the best for us in the contract.
II. What do you think Abraham had to weigh in signing that blank contract?
He believed that whatever God had for him was better than what he already had.
What do you and I have to weigh when we face crisis moments in our lives?
