Episode The Gospel in the Mountains | Week 1
In the Bible, there seems to be a love-hate relationship with mountains. It was in the mountains that Israel established “high places” where false gods were worshipped. Yet, it is nonetheless surprising how often mountains are the sites where significant biblical events happened. Over the next two weeks on Discover the Word, we want to consider ten of those important and dramatic moments that took place on mountains, and what we can perhaps learn from them.
Chapter 1
In the Bible, it doesn’t take long to discover that God often chose mountains as the location for significant biblical events. In this chapter, the group begins a study called “The Gospel in the Mountains” by looking at the story of Noah and the mountain where God gave humanity a fresh start.
Chapter 2
Abraham waited nearly a lifetime for the birth of his son. Yet when the promised heir finally came, God ask him to do the unthinkable. In this chapter, you’ll look at the story of Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah and the promise God made in that place.
Chapter 3
If you’ve ever tried reading through the lengthy Old Testament laws, you probably quickly realized that no one could follow all the rules perfectly. In this chapter, you’ll consider why God gave the Israelites the Law on Mount Sinai and Jesus’ role in fulfilling it.
Chapter 4
For hundreds of years, the Israelites waited for God to bring them into the Promised Land. But shortly before the long-awaited day, something shocking happened to Moses, their faithful leader. In this chapter, you’ll see what happened between God and Moses on Mount Nebo.
Chapter 5
For thousands of years, the city of Jerusalem has played a key role in God’s plan to redeem humanity. And in this chapter, you’ll consider why God chose Mount Zion as the capital of Israel and what it represents to us today.
