About This Episode

Receive

At first glance, many of Jesus’ commands in the Gospels seem impossible to follow. But as we better understand God’s intentions behind them then we discover that they actually help us become more like Jesus. We find that Jesus’ commands are invitations to let Him make us complete.

Reflect

  • Read the verses connected with this episode below. As you reflect on this Scripture, what stands out to you?
  • How should we approach Jesus’ seemingly impossible commands from the Gospels (based on Haddon Robinson’s quote, “ The law as a standard condemns us, but as a goal it motivates us.”)?
  • What does Jesus give you to help you not be afraid?
  • How can you love your enemies or the difficult people in your life?
  • What does it mean to be perfect as God is perfect?

Respond

(Use this prayer to start a conversation with God)

“Jesus, help me to be motivated by the goal of Your commands—and not condemned by their standard. Help me to look for Your presence in my fear. Help me to love others the way that You love me—even those who are difficult. And help me to become complete in You. Amen.”
