About This Episode

Receive

The Hebrew word for justice appears over 400 times in the Old Testament. We gain insight about living out God’s justice in our own lives as we see how He expresses justice in both the Old and New Testaments. God often administers justice through His people for His people in examples like Moses, Boaz, Ruth, and King David. And Jesus shows us God’s heart to give justice to both the oppressed and the oppressors.

Reflect

  • Read the verses connected with this episode below. As you reflect on the Scripture, what stands out to you?
  • Boaz and Ruth demonstrate some important aspects of living justly (in Ruth 1:16-17Ruth 2:2, and Ruth 2:8-11). How can their example inspire the way you live out biblical justice today?
  • We see God administer justice through His people for His people in examples from the Bible (like Exodus 3:7-10) and from recent history (like  Jubilee Day). How can this assurance we have in God encourage you during times of injustice?
  • King David in the Old Testament (2 Samuel 9) and Maya Moore Irons today (The Return) both used their power to demonstrate a unique aspect of God’s justice. How does this inspire you to put love and justice together for good in your life?
  • In the New Testament, Jesus gives justice to both people who’ve been oppressed (like Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52) and people who’ve oppressed others (like Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10). How can Jesus’ words and actions inspire you to live out biblical justice to both types of people in your life?

Respond

(Use this prayer to start a conversation with God)

“Jesus, help me understand Your heart for justice more clearly and help me recognize opportunities to share Your justice in my own life. When I witness or experience injustice, help me trust that You see it too and that You will respond. Amen.”
